Emergency Garage Door Repair Ottawa: What to Do When It Breaks
A stuck, broken, or off-track garage door is a security and safety concern. Here’s what to do — and what not to do — until a technician arrives.
If the Door Is Stuck Open
Your garage is exposed. Don’t leave the house unattended if possible. Secure the opening (e.g. temporary barrier or park a vehicle in the opening only if safe). Call for same-day service — we prioritize emergencies and often arrive within a few hours across Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, and Barrhaven.
If You Heard a Loud Bang (Broken Spring)
That’s usually a torsion or extension spring failing. Don’t try to open or close the door manually; the remaining spring (if any) is under tension and the door can be very heavy. Don’t attempt to replace springs yourself — the risk of injury is high. Call a licensed technician. We carry common springs and can usually fix it the same day.
If the Door Came Off the Track
Don’t force it or run the opener. Forcing can damage the door, tracks, or opener. Keep people and vehicles away. We’ll re-set the door, check tracks and rollers, and make any needed repairs.
If the Opener Runs But the Door Doesn’t Move
Often a broken spring or disconnected arm. Don’t keep hitting the button. If the door is partway open, avoid standing under it. We’ll diagnose and repair on-site; many opener and spring issues are fixed in one visit.
